The following information may be useful to students and families interested in pursuing opportunities in a military academy. When applying for an academy, it is best to start exploring academies during sophomore year and applying early during junior year in high school. These applications require a congressional nomination from your local congressman or congresswoman; the representatives listed below can offer information about this process. Military academies also host summer programs that can be beneficial for students who are interested.


The Summer Seminar at the United States Air Force Academy offers a unique opportunity to get the Academy experience first-hand. Specially designed for high school juniors heading into their senior year, Summer Seminar allows participants to see themselves as USAFA cadet. The application opens Dec. 1 and closes Jan. 15. The United State Military Academy (West Point) hosts a Summer Learning Experience. SLE gives high school juniors a week to experience life as a cadet to inform their college selection decision. SLE is a fast-paced program of academic classes, military training, physical fitness training, and intramural athletics conducted during the month of June each year. The United States Coast Guard Academy hosts the summer Academy Introduction Mission (AIM) program. Exclusively for students preparing to enter their senior year of high school, AIM will test and inspire those interested in serving their country and humanity as officers in the nation’s oldest continuous maritime service. The United States Naval Academy Summer Seminar is a fast-paced, six-day experience for high achievers who have completed their junior year in high school. Summer Seminar teaches you about life at the Naval Academy, where academics, athletics, and professional training play equally important roles in developing our nation's leaders.
