Chess Team takes 1st at State

The La Salle Chess Team emerged victorious at the Oregon High School Chess Team Association's State Championship on Saturday, Feb. 23. La Salle reclaimed the 1st place trophy after placing 3rd last year in the team 5A division.

The team includes Nic Richardson '19, Andrew Harder '20, Sawyer Paugh '21, Lucas Petersen '20, David Hill, Kyle Schraner '19, and Long Tran '20, and is led by volunteer coaches Daniel Petersen and Peter Richardson. Nic Richardson '19 led the Varsity team to victory and claimed first prize for Board 1.

Coach Petersen said he "couldn't be more thrilled with the team's performance. We faced stiff competition and relied heavily upon newer players who replaced more advanced students involved with other activities. They definitely deserved this win."

Congratulations, team!
