August workshop will help rising seniors tackle college applications

For many students, the prospect of writing a personal essay is the most daunting aspect of applying to college.
This month's "Writing the College Application Essay" course will help students face that fear. During the workshop, lead by writer and storyteller Monty Mickelson, students will read a range of essays, then brainstorm and write their own essays that address the prompts from the Common App - an application that students can submit to nearly 900 colleges and universities around the world.
The class, open to incoming 12th-graders, will be held 9 am-11:30 am August 12-15 (Monday-Thursday). Cost is $100 per student.
