Lasallian wins scholarship for soccer, service

Mizael Harris ‘22 has been selected to win one of two 2019-2020 Moda Health Player of the Game/Athlete of the Meet Scholarships. He will receive a $1,000 scholarship to the school, college, or university of his choice.

Moda Health awards scholarships to students selected from those who have been honored as the Player of the Game or Athlete of the Meet during Oregon School Activities Association events. Because the pandemic canceled spring sports, students who normally would have played spring sports also were eligible to apply.

Mizael, who was selected as the Player of the Game in the 5A Boys Soccer State Championship game after scoring two goals in the 2-1 victory, was chosen for the scholarship after submitting letters of recommendation, and writing an essay about his volunteer activities, which include volunteering at St. Francis Dining Hall, being active in La Salle’s Black Student Union, recording himself reading books to schoolchildren, and encouraging middle-schoolers to consider attending college.

Tana’ya Brown '20, a multi-sport athlete at Toledo High, received the other Moda Health scholarship.
