Falcons gather food for neighbors

In what seemed like no time at all, Falcons packed 85 bags of oranges, apples, pears, onions, potatoes, garlic, avocados, bananas, and snacks for 85 students who attend nearby Lot Whitcomb Elementary School today.

The packing party will be repeated weekly this school year, as La Salle has committed to collecting fruit, vegetables, and snacks for the grade-schoolers throughout the 2021-22 academic year.

La Salle students are taking turns bringing in the treats. For example, juniors are bringing them this week; seniors are dropping them off next week.

Sarah Maher, La Salle's Director of Service, encourages students to personalize their donations by decorating the delivery sacks, sending notes with the snacks, and praying for the children and families who will receive them.

"During these trying times, those working hard to make ends meet are being hit the hardest," she said.

As Lasallians, she said, "It is our responsibility to build relationships, grow in empathy, and help where we can."
