Students practice Spanish and compassion

Encouraged by Spanish teacher Lisa Moran (above) and other teachers, Spanish II students collected enough toiletries, socks, and handwarmers this fall to make more than 100 care kits. The kits will be distributed to people in need through the St. Vincent de Paul chapter at St. Rita's parish.
Moran said the drive helps students learn Spanish words for daily routines, such as washing hair (lavarse el pelo).

Students also get to practice compassion, which feels the same in any language.

Said Moran, "I tell them, 'Everybody is entitled to dignity, and one of the ways we maintain our dignity is we stay clean.'"
