La Salle hosts a free talk tonight on reducing teen anxiety

 Kevin Ashworth
La Salle will host Kevin Ashworth, MA, LPC,  at 7 pm on Thursday, Feb. 15, in the Hamersly Library to discuss how to help teens reduce anxiety. The presentation is recommended for adults.
Ashworth, co-founder, clinical director, and senior clinician of the NW Anxiety Institute in Portland, is a nationally recognized expert on adolescent anxiety.
Brian Devine, Vice Principal of Student Life, said La Salle is bringing in the speaker as part of the school's series of Teen Topic Talks.

"Like many school communities around the country, we have seen an increase in students experiencing anxiety and depression," said Devine. "We are not sure what may be causing our students to feel this way. It may be an increase in social media use, or kids being overscheduled, or political issues.

"No matter what, we know that many of our families are looking for ways to support their children in managing and moving past the anxiety and stress in their lives."

The presentation is free to La Salle parents and other parents in the community.

"The strategies and resources that Kevin will share can benefit all of our students and parents," said Devine.

In addition to speaking to groups and working with individuals with anxiety disorders, Ashworth has made a series of videos about anxiety. Here's a sample: "Sleep 101: Better Sleep, Less Anxiety."
