Lent at La Salle

La Salle's Lenten season started with an Ash Wednesday Mass at nearby Christ the King Catholic Church.

In his message to the school community, Father Tom Jones, CSC, of Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, said that Valentine's Day, which coincided with Ash Wednesday, "is all about passion and caring for others."

"Ash Wednesday and Valentine's Day have a lot in common," he said. "They are both about love -- the sacrificial love of giving of ourselves to others."

The Mass was the first of several ways Lasallians will observe Lent. The coming weeks will include:
  • Thursday Lenten Morning Prayer: Every Thursday, starting Feb. 15, at 7:45am in the Chapel
  • Friday Student-Led Prayer: Student Council will host prayer services during Falcon Time at 10:55 am on Feb. 23, March 2, March 16, and March 23 in the Chapel.
  • Falcon Reflections: A Schoology group that will spend 25 days -- one chapter a day -- praying the Gospel of Matthew. Someone will post a Lenten reflection every day there's school; members can post as well. If interested in joining, send a message via Schoology to Evans Brackenbrough.
  • A fundraiser for our twin school in Kenya: Students will sell muffins every Friday morning during Lent. Proceeds will benefit Mwangaza College, our twin school in Kenya.
