Junior named Milwaukie's 'Amazing Kid'

Andrew Shireman '19 was named Milwaukie's Amazing Kid by the Clackamas Review, a newspaper covering the Clackamas area.

Andrew was selected for the honor in large part because of his volunteer work at Kaiser Sunnyside Medical Center, where he does everything from adjust pillows to get water for patients.

"I love directly applying myself, and I get to speak with patients," he says in an interview published in the 2018 issue of "Amazing Kids" released by the Pamplin Media Group, which publishes the Clackamas Review.

The issue, circulated in Pamplin's 20 newspapers this week, features articles about 28 "Amazing Kids" from all over the metro area.

The students' stories are inspiring, said John Schrag, executive editor of the Pamplin Media Group, because they show that "a new generation of compassionate, engaged Oregonians is ready to step up and contribute to their towns, their state, their country and their world."

This was the fifth annual Amazing Kids contest. The honorees are chosen from hundreds of nominees for their commitment to service and their impact on the community.
