Request Letter of Recommendation

Many colleges will ask you for letters of recommendation from your teachers and/or counselor. You will include this information in the Common App (or direct applications) and the letters will be sent electronically from La Salle through SCOIR. This article has tips on who and how to ask.

In the Common App, only list your counselor and teacher names for recommendation requests. (Do not include their email address or phone number; it will ask you to print a PDF request which you do not need to do. If you already added an email for a recommender see this link to fix the connection.) These letters will be sent through SCOIR. To request them in SCOIR, do the following:

For letters of recommendation from teachers:
  1. Request - in person - a letter of recommendation from your teacher.
  2. Follow through with a polite email to your teacher (including this form) requesting they write you a letter of recommendation for a college application.
  3. In your SCOIR account:
From a computer: click on My Colleges and Application Documents. Click Request Recommendation and add teacher by name.
From the app: click More and Application Documents. Click the blue plus (+) sign and add by name.
  4. Request letters at least two weeks before the application deadline.
For letters of recommendation from counselors:
  1. Send a polite email to your counselor (including a resume) requesting they write you a letter of recommendation for a college application.
  2. Complete the Request Form for counselors Ms. Berry, Ms. Kwan, Mr. Link, Ms. Mendez.
  3. Have your parent or guardian complete a Parent Form
  4. Request letters at least two weeks before the application deadline.
These letters will be sent electronically to colleges from the Counseling department. You can check the status of a letter and the date submitted in your SCOIR account.
