Tournament Details


WHAT: A fun, festive, five-round chess tournament for all chess players in grades K-12.  This holiday tournament will be NWSRS rated, and has been designated as a qualifier for the OSCF 2021 State championship.  Time control is G25 + 1 sec delay. New: this year is OPEN division for higher rated players.


WHEN: Saturday, Dec. 11, 2021, from 8:30 am - 3 pm. (Contact Tournament Director) 8:30 am Check-in; 9 am Round 1; 10 am Round 2; 11 am Round 3; 12:30 pm Round 4; 1:30 pm Round 5 (Times are approximate and can be moved at the Tournament Director's discretion)


WHERE: Online via Zoom and All players must have an individual computer (desktop or chromebook preferred) plus ZOOM and LICHESS accounts to participate. Get a free LICHESS account here: 


HOW: Everyone plays five games online! Registration is now open. Early-bird cost is $25 if registered by Sunday, Dec. 5. Cost doubles to $50 on Dec. 6. Registration packet full of Yuletide cheer will be mailed out the week before the tournament. Access codes will be emailed on Friday, Dec. 10. Register early to guarantee your spot.


EQUIPMENT: Participants must use a desktop, laptop or Chromebook with a working camera and microphone. Tablets and phones are not permitted for tournament play. Participants must be in the Zoom call with their cameras on during games. Participants who do not have a camera on during games may forfeit any prizes. Participants also need a free account on They will need to use Lichess in Google Chrome. Other browsers have very high failure rates during tournaments.
FAIR PLAY: Video monitoring and cheat detection provided. Participants must agree to the OSCF Fair Play Agreement. Standings and awards not official until the completion of post-tournament fair play review.


RATINGS: NWSRS and Lichess Classical Rated; 2022 OSCF State Championship Qualifier
SECTIONS: K-3, 4th, 5th, 6th, 7th, 8th, HS, and OPEN sections are planned.  Rounds are Swiss Paired by Lichess so that games become more evenly matched as the event progresses

  • Top trophy awards to individual students finishing 1st, 2nd, & 3rd in their division. The following divisions are planned:
    • K - 3
    • 4 , 5, 6, 7, 8 and
    • 9 - 12
    • OPEN
    • These divisions may be condensed or expanded based on participation levels
