David Lane and Dustin Janz Receive Carol Feltz Bluhm '80 Award

Lasallian educators David Lane and Dustin Janz have won the prestigious Carol Feltz Bluhm ‘80 award. The two were honored on January 30, 2024 during halftime of the girls varsity basketball game at home in the Brick Oven.

The Carol Feltz Bluhm ’80 Award recognizes teachers who go above and beyond their required classroom responsibilities during the school year by participating actively in the development of students as a coach or moderator of an OSAA-sanctioned activity. Consideration is given to those who embody the mission and characteristics of Lasallian education and acts with integrity, respect, responsibility, servant leadership, and sportsmanship. A 4-year starter and varsity letter athlete in girls’ basketball, earning 2 First-Time All-State awards, Carol was an avid student-athlete, and was especially grateful for the teachers that coached her. She admired their dedication and commitment to go beyond what was required of them for the benefit of other student athletes.

As a German teacher, David Lane is beloved by his students for his fun antics and wacky humor. Known for wearing his own lederhosen, traditional leather breeches worn in German culture, Lane brings an enthusiasm to the classroom while engaging his students. Along with his enthusiasm for the classroom, Lane serves as the varsity girls tennis coach. For the past two consecutive years, the team finished 1st in the NW Oregon Conference and 2nd in state under Coach Lane’s leadership. Wunderbar!

“It has been a dream of mine since I was 14 to become a positively impactful teacher-coach. I’m humbled because there are so many other educator-coaches who also deserve recognition for the outstanding work they do to support our students and the La Salle community,” said Lane.

Dustin Janz, the mastermind behind La Salle Prep’s 8-2 football squad, offers his expertise as a P.E. educator, as well as Health and Weight Training. Janz is a respected and fun-loving educator who instills in his students the importance of physical health. As the head varsity football coach, Janz went undefeated in conference play and achieved the unthinkable by not surrendering a point to opposing conference teams over 5 games. He was appropriately honored as All-State 4A Co-Coach of the Year.

“I am very thankful to the Feltz and Bluhm families for their continued support of teachers and coaches at La Salle,” said Janz. “It is a pleasure to work at La Salle alongside so many fantastic teachers and coaches. The kids we get to teach/coach truly are the best part of the job.”

Along with the recipients, in attendance were their family and friends, as well as the Feltz and Bluhm families in honor of Carol. The ceremony highlighted the impact that Carol, David, and Dustin have had on the La Salle community, before capping off a night cheering on our Falcons.
