Multiple La Salle Prep Students Named All-State Players of the Year

La Salle students Emelia Warta ’23 and Quentin Strange ’23 have been crowned as the Oregon 5A All-State Players of the Year for Girls and Boys soccer respectively.

After a relatively successful season with both teams finishing with a top-10 OSAA 5A ranking, it was a fitting end for a storied high school career for the two soccer studs. “This award means a lot to me because I’ve been playing soccer my whole life and it showed me that my hard work really paid off,” said Strange. “I couldn’t have done it without the support of my teammates every day, and my coaches, Monty Hawkins and David Leslie, who were there for me on and off the field.”

“Receiving this award was very exciting, but also motivational,” Warta added. “[This award] was very significant to me due to the fact that achieving it has been a goal of mine since I started playing high school soccer my sophomore year.”

Warta, who will go on to play soccer for Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, is also one of four La Salle seniors to have signed their national letter of intent earlier this fall. All four students will be going to Division 1 Catholic universities.

This includes:

  • William Koch ’23, Seattle University (Men’s Golf)
  • Olivia Maulding ’23, Notre Dame University (Women’s Volleyball)
  • Ella Wedin ’23, Loyola Marymount University (Women’s Basketball)
  • Emelia Warta ’23, Gonzaga University (Women’s Soccer)

“These seniors, along with their classmates, have been incredible ambassadors for their programs, the athletic department, and our school” said La Salle Athletics Director Chris George. “It is inspiring to see our younger athletes flourish under their leadership, carry on with traditions, and position themselves for similar success in the future. We look forward to welcoming future falcons who aspire to follow in their footsteps.”
