Parents can contact a school counselor to help their student with a variety of issues, including academic support, scheduling, transition, academic and college testing, student crisis situations, family transitions, and questions about college and career planning. The following resources are a useful place to for families to start. As always, please feel free to contact your student's counselor for any reason throughout the school year.

Freshman Parents
Freshman year is focused on growth and academic planning at La Salle. Students meet individually in the fall with counselors to share more about themselves, their interests and learn about extracurricular activities. They discuss academic planning, including courses needed to graduate, prerequisites for Honors and AP classes, GPA, study tips, organization and academic support. They may begin to discuss career interests, possible majors and early college exploration. Families can learn more about summer enrichment and internship opportunities for students.

Sophomore Parents
Sophomore year at La Salle is focused on interests, careers and beginning college exploration. Students meet in the spring with their counselor to review their transcript, GPA, graduation requirements and AP/Honors and dual enrollment offerings and extracurricular interests. They continue to explore possible areas of study and careers. Counselors will discuss PSAT testing, fee waivers, opportunities for first-generation students and SCOIR, college visits and Big Future (college and career exploration resources). Families can learn more about summer enrichment and internship opportunities for students.

How to Prepare for College during Sophomore Year Video
Junior Parents
During Junior year at La Salle, students meet individually in the first half of the second semester with their counselor to begin college and post-secondary planning. College visits begin in the fall for students and can be found in the weekly announcements and Schoology. Students will review transcripts, graduation requirements, AP/Honors and dual enrollment offerings.
They will discuss options for college testing (ACT/SAT exams), view the college planning timeline and the the College Counseling FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) here. Families are encouraged to attend the College Planning Night for Juniors in the spring as well as to view the videos in the college sections on the Parents Page.
Students and parents will continue to use SCOIR and Big Future (college and career exploration resources). Families can learn more about fee waivers, scholarships, summer enrichment and internship opportunities for students.

How to Prepare for College Junior Year Video
Senior Parents
At La Salle, seniors focus on college and post secondary planning. Students meet with their counselor in the fall to to review the college application timeline, FAQs and discuss college visits and fairs. Students will determine if they should take ACT/SAT exams and send these scores to colleges. Families should plan to submit the FAFSA beginning October 1 of their student's senior year. Students will complete applications in the fall for early deadlines and spring for regular application. Parents and students can find useful links in the timeline and help in the video library below.
