Career Day

La Salle Prep Career Day aims to expose students to a variety of career paths while connecting classroom learning to real-world applications.

Career Day provides opportunities for STUDENTS to:

• Explore various career sectors, as well as the job skills and traits useful in this field, by attending brief presentations from adults currently employed in those sectors
• Discover interesting career paths they may not have previously considered
• Learn about potential educational paths and/or institutions that align with their interests
• Ask questions about work and educational experiences during presentations and in a Career Fair style format
• Meet and make connections with adults in fields that interest them

Career Day provides opportunities for our ALUMNI & other community members to:

• Share work history and career path with students and answer questions about their field
• Spark interest in their chosen field
• Inspire students to "think big" about job opportunities or educational they've never considered and let students know there are many paths to each job
   

After a morning keynote address, La Salle students will attend three 30-minute career sessions, based on their identified preferences. As a presenter, you will be scheduled to lead a 30-minute session one to three times, depending on student interest in your topic or field of work. Each session will have approximately 20-25 students.

The early afternoon will consist of rotations by grade level. Presenters scheduled to participate in the Career Fair will be stationed at a table in the gym for the duration of this time, speaking with students one-on-one or in small groups as they visit tables throughout the Fair.

La Salle students responded to a survey and provided input into their fields of interest. From this list, the Career Day committee seeks to identify alumni and other community members engaged in these lines of work to participate in the day's events. 

Several topics of interest to La Salle students include:

Dress Code for Career Day is "business casual". This is similar to Liturgy Dress, with attention to the fact that students will be meeting with professionals for the purpose of engaging them about careers and academics beyond their time at La Salle. Collared shirts (or equivalent top); work-appropriate attire; no jeans, athletic bottoms, or leggings; no ripped or torn clothing; and follow all La Salle dress code standards. 

Morning Career Sessions: La Salle students will attend three 30-minute career sessions, based on their identified preferences. As a presenter, you will be scheduled to lead a 30-minute session sharing your career and how you got there one to three times, depending on student interest in your topic or field of work. Each session will have approximately 20 - 25 students.

Afternoon Career Fair: We also welcome and encourage you to table at our afternoon Career Fair, showcasing your employer or line of work. This provides you with a more informal way to engage with students one-on-one or in small groups.

• Information about their current line of work: major responsibilities, rewards, work context (office-based or remote, alone or on a team, etc.), performance standards
• Path to arrive in this role: education, experiences, connections, etc.
• Skills, education, or personality traits that are helpful in this career
• Interesting projects/activities you work on
• How or why you landed on this career path
• General career advice or guidance for students
• An opportunity for students to ask presenters questions they have about the field or path

Starting the week of January 5, students will be able to choose and register for morning workshops through PowerSchool, using the Adaptive Scheduler (like signing up for Flex Time).
